«筌者所以在魚，得魚而忘筌；蹄者所以在兔，得兔而忘蹄；言者所以在意，得意而忘言。吾安得夫忘言之人而與之言哉？»

“The fish trap exists for the fish; once you get the fish, you forget the trap. The rabbit snare exists for the rabbit; once you get the rabbit, you forget the snare. Words exist for the meaning; once you get the meaning, you forget the words. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words, so I may have a word with him?”

"La nasa sirve para pescar; atrapado el pez, se olvida la nasa. La trampa sirve para cazar conejos; atrapado el conejo, se olvida la trampa. Las palabras sirven para capturar el sentido; alcanzado el sentido, se olvidan las palabras. ¿Dónde podré hallar a un hombre que haya olvidado las palabras para poder conversar con él?"
